Studs and Duds of Week #24 (April 6th – April 12th)

Welcome to the final Studs and Duds of the 2014-2015. I think there are some very fitting final weekend studs and duds that probably explain a lot about MVP and why some teams are firing on all cylinders at the right time.

Studs:

Anyone see that YouTube video of Stephen Curry hitting 77 threes in a row and 94 out 100 possible? (if not check out GSW’s twitter here:

. Anyway back to week #24 where Curry threw down 34.7 points, 6 threes, 4 rebounds, 8.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 60% from the floor and 92% from the line. That’s just beautiful in a three game stretch and as I’ve mentioned a few times now I still really want to see how many times in his career he ends up with 5+ threes and assists in a game. It seems kind of arbitrary, but the fact that he leads it by a significant margin and is as young as he is seems ridiculous. Oh, he also broke the single season record for threes too.

I’ve never heard anyone ever say they don’t like Tim Duncan. The “Big Fundamental” carries himself so well on and off the court you’d be hard pressed to argue there wasn’t a more influential franchise player all time. Tim Duncan and the Spurs have won 50+ games for a record 16th straight season and the only reason it’s not longer is because of the 98-99 lockout where there were only 50 games played and the Spurs went 37-13 in 50 games (They would have won about 60 games if extrapolated out). Add on to this that Duncan has more 50 win seasons by himself than 26 other NBA teams and you realize how dominant he and the Spurs were and are. Ranked top 10 for the past week with 17.3 points, 9.75 boards, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals, 3.25 blocks and 65% and 81% in 4 games.

Only DeAndre Jordan can score 12 points per game and still somehow put up first round value. You do that by grabbing 16.5 boards, 1.5 steals, 2.5 blocks, 1 TO, and shooting 83% from the floor. The stats like we’ve always said are a little deceptive since he’s very dependent on a few cats, but hard to argue with the Clippers success this season especially with Griffin missing sometime with the elbow and Crawford and Redick having some issues here and there as well. Wouldn’t be surprised to see DeAndre win Defensive Player of the Year at all.

Duds:

Lebron James had a bad playoff schedule to begin with but putting up 12th round value in 2 games in Week #24 isn’t what anyone was hoping for. Hopefully if you drafted him you moved him before the playoffs or had some other studs show up. The line isn’t terrible, but 44%, 54%, and 2.5 TOs while only scoring 17.5 per game hurts the efficiency quite a bit. One three and one steal and .5 block are nice, but none jump out as dominant.

Danny Green: 7.5 points, 1.8 threes, 2.3 boards, 2.8 assists, .5 steals, .5 blocks 32% and 100% is a line that pretty much sums up how frustrating Green can be and of course is very reminiscent of his last season. That’s not standard roster worthy unless you’re targeting certain cats or punting certain cats.

Kyle Lowry has never shot well, but 27% is a little insane. That’s like first year rookie bad or Ricky Rubio bad. Half a three and only 4 assists while still turning the ball over 2.5 times a game just adds injury to insult. Never good win Lou Williams and Vasquez are outplaying you down the stretch. Keep in mind I do think the Bulls and Raps both want the three side bad as the Wizards could be trouble.

No mention of Danilo Gallinari as a stud? He was very good last week. Steph wow'd us one day (Apr 9). Danilo wow'd us the next (Apr 10).

Awesome write-up though. Thanks for putting these together! They've been fun to read.
